Info

The forested slopes and steep, cool canyons of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks are a trail running paradise within the heart of the San Francisco Peninsula. Along the many small streams and gullies, runners will enjoy the beautiful trails under the canopy of towering 2nd and 3rd generation, moss covered redwoods. As you climb, you’ll enter the mixed evergreen forest, which leads to the drier chaparral and manzanita covered area of the ridge-line. Soak in the breath-taking views – and hills – on these pine covered, twisting single-track trails, including the renowned Crystal Springs and Skyline Trails. Keep your eyes pealed, as you’ll probably be sharing the trails with black-tailed deer, coyotes, bobcats and grey foxes. Distances of 10K, Half Marathon, 35K and 50K make for the perfect proving grounds for runners, and hikers, of all abilities – from first time trail runner to grizzled, ultra-marathon veteran.

Sorry, no dogs are allowed in the park or on the trails.

Race Info

San Pedro Valley Park is nestled amongst the Santa Cruz Mountain range and the foothills of Pacifica and offers 1,150 acres of coastal mountain environment. As part of the San Mateo County Park system, it is part of 200 years of history that includes the Native American culture and the urban development of San Francisco. Longer distance runners will ascend the 1,900ft. climb of Montara Mountain North Peak and either pause to take a breath and appreciate views of the Farallon Islands and the exterior of Pacifica or turn without much thought outside of enjoying a long downhill trounce. Red Tail Hawks can be found spectating from the high branches of the abundant eucalyptus forest and during the rainy months of winter and spring, Brooks Falls is a spectacular sight as it drops 175 feet in three tiers that just may alleviate the feeling of heavy feet and aching quads. Distances range from 10k-30k, with the 10k being fast and without too much elevation gain. This park is ideal for family and friends who are awaiting their loved ones to finish as there are picnic areas with BBQ pits and plenty of space for a game of Frisbee or volleyball.

Parking is $6.00.

Sorry, no dogs are allowed in the park or on the trails.

Race Info

Monterey Bay Area locals designed this beautiful course to highlight Fort Ord National Monument. You’ll run on just about every type of trail there is during this 62 mile tour. From wide fire road, smooth and twisting singletrack, deep sand and rocky, rooty climbs you certainly won’t get bored. The course consists of a 40 mile and and a 22 mile loop, with plenty of aid stations (and views) along the way. Make sure to read the “Course Information” tab for course details, headlamp/drop bag/pacer details and all the other nitty gritty.

Fort Ord was a U.S. Army post on Monterey Bay in California. It was established in 1917 as a maneuver area and field artillery target range and was closed in September 1994. Fort Ord was one of the most attractive locations of any U.S. Army post, because of its proximity to the beach and California weather. The 7th Infantry Division (Light) was its main resident for many years. When Fort Ord was converted to civilian use, space was set aside for the first nature reserve in the United States created for conservation of an insect, the endangered species Smith’s blue butterfly.

While much of the old military buildings and infrastructure remain abandoned, many structures have been torn down for anticipated development. California State University Monterey Bay and Fort Ord Dunes State Park, along with some subdivisions, the Veterans Transition Center, a strip mall, military facilities and a nature preserve occupy the area today.

On April 20, 2012, President Obama signed a proclamation designating a 14,651-acre portion of the former post as the Fort Ord National Monument.

Race Info

Lake Chabot Regional Park was established in the 1960s after the reservoir had been closed to recreational use for 91 years. Today, the lake remains as an emergency water supply and is open to fishers and boaters, as it is filled with trout, catfish, bass, crappie, and other fish.

With eucalyptus forests, grassy meadows, lakeside paths, and hill top vistas, Lake Chabot offers over 20 miles of hiking trails, which connect to the additional 70 miles of trails in adjoining Anthony Chabot Regional Park making it a spectacular place to run and also very accessible.

This is one of our typically faster races with less elevation and some paved sections. The course is designed for those who are looking to PR and those who are less competitive and/or just embarking on trail racing.

Parking is $5 at Lake Chabot.

Race Info

Inside Trail is proud to showcase this event.  Meticulous effort went into the design of the 50k and 50 mile courses.  They are challenging (50 Mile has over 11,000 ft climb) and beautiful.  Every step of the race is run on fresh ground with very little overlapping.  Jim Vernon from The Endurables spent hours and weekends developing this custom, brand new course and we are super excited to show it off.  In fact, we’re so excited, we are offering a little chunk of prize money!!  In the 50 mile race:  Male/Female 1st-$250, 2nd-$150, 3rd-$100, along with special awards for both distances and age groups.

Starting just steps away from historic Fort Baker, in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge, runners may fill their lungs with fresh salt air before embarking on a journey through some of the best trails the Marin Headlands and Mt. Tamalpais has to offer, including the beautiful views of Coastal Trail, the inland buffed single track of the Miwok, descend on the famous Dipsea Trail and tackle one of the toughest climbs around – Willow Camp. You’ll travel along the coast, by Pirate’s Cove, to Muir Beach. Fron there you will cross over to Mt. Tam, climbing to the top of Cardiac Hill then scream down the Dipsea to Stinson Beach. Depart Stinson Beach with the 1,800′ of vertical gain in 1.8 miles on Willow Camp and traverse Mt. Tam along the single-track Coastal Trail, back to the top of Cardiac. Enjoy the tall trees as you pass through Muir Woods, before you climb back into the Headlands on Miwok to the killer downhill of Dias Ridge back to Muir Beach. From there, you’ll quietly pass through the Zen center and up the incredible new Middle Green Gulch hill. Your journey will ultimately end with amazing vistas of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge from the SCA and Coastal trails… all the way back to the finish at Cavallo Point. Aid stations will be packed with all the goodies you love, plus a generous helping of delicious Clif Products!

Info

Folsom Lake is a popular destination for campers and boaters, but it is highlighted by the lakeside trails that meander around much of the 75 miles of lake shore. Our Folsom Lake Trail Run utilizes the beautiful trails along the south-eastern side of the lake. An out and back course beginning at Folsom Point, the trail winds it’s way east, past Falcon Crest to the turn around at Salmon Falls. This is one of our “flatter” courses, but there is still plenty of excitement. The course gently rolls, up and down, the entire way along twisting single-track trails. Distances of 10K, Half Marathon, 35K and 50K make for the perfect trail running challenge along this American River fed paradise.

Race Info

These are high altitude trail races, with lots of climbing, in the scenic foothills of the Eastern Sierra Nevada. The course is mainly run on 4 wheel drive dirt roads, with a couple of sections of single-track trail. There are very few trees, thus the race is exposed, dry and high! Much of the 100k and 50-mile courses are above 7000′ in altitude. These races are the perfect training opportunity for upcoming mountain trail 100 mile events.

The weather can range from cold to hot, dry to snowing, breezy to very windy. We have experienced all weather types, but usually we can expect fine, sunny weather, with afternoon breezes. Temperatures usually range from mid 40’s at the start to 90’s in the late afternoon, and then cooling in the evening.

Our aid stations are at 2 – 5 mile intervals, and are famous for variety of food and drinks available. We have small first aid kits at each, with foot care and pain relief medications. There are usually nurses and doctors on the course, with a Search and Rescue unit available as well. Runners are tracked by our local Ham Radio club, with radio contact at the finish line.

At the finish line, we have a wonderful post-race meal, with fresh fruit, hot snacks, cold drinks and an assortment of “munchies”.

Race awards will be provided to winners in each 10 year age group. All finishers will receive a hand-made pottery medallion, and overall winners each receive a framed 8″ x 10″ scenic photograph, donated by local photographers.

Expect to find variety at our aid stations, including sweet and salty offerings like trail mix, pretzels, cookies, boiled potatoes with salt for dipping, regular soda, Mountain Dew, water (of course!), Tailwind Nutrition Electrolye drink, PB&J finger sandwiches, salt tablets, you get the idea. There will also be general first aid items but no anti-inflammatory medicine. We strongly encourage you to carry at least one 20oz bottle while you enjoy your run.
