Personal Coaching Services

Coaching isn't just for elite athletes. It's for anyone who wants to improve their running, nutrition, injury prevention, and reach their goals.
We have always made it our mission to deliver the best races within our power, designing courses that challenge runners of all abilities and make them proud to have toed the line. It is our hope that Inside Trail Racing helps people connect with an experience that elevates life and broadens their community.

Like our races, our coaching service is aimed toward helping both new and experienced trail-runners discover their potential, achieve their best performances, and enjoy the training process for any event or personal best they attempt, be it a local Turkey Trot, a 250-miler, or simply shaving time off of their favorite route. The time we devote to training should have purpose and meaning, and we are committed to helping athletes find a relationship with their sport that supports their development as people.

Every runner is unique, possessing different levels of talent and time they can devote to training, however, we are all deserving of an individualized, dynamic plan that will guide us to become our best and deepen our appreciation for what our bodies can do. We want you to fall in love with running and stay healthy to grow old with it!

About Me

Former competitive Irish dancer (top 20 in the World, several national and regional titles) turned competitive cyclist (NorCal RR champion) turned ultra-runner, fascinated and animated by the limits of human performance. I’ve been involved in endurance sports for over 17 years, both as an athlete and as a coach. I keep up to date on the current research regarding exercise physiology, training theory, and sleep, implementing the best practices that make sense for each athlete, understanding our unique genetic and environmental histories.

Having enjoyed a career in endurance sports, I am now most interested in helping new and experienced runners reveal and reach their potential, achieve their big dreams, find success as they define it, all while enjoying a long career in whatever sport they choose. I have a background in biology and psychology. Familiar with pregnancy and postpartum fitness.

Coaching Philosophy

People perform best when they can identify and maintain the meaning behind their pursuits. Keep it simple and focus on recovery: The body doesn’t need the most complicated workouts to achieve its best form. Training isn’t always fun, but it should be most of the time. Train by accepting the athlete you are today, not by what your Strava followers are doing.

About Me

I’ve been an avid and competitive runner since the age of 10. In my younger–and faster–days, I competed in the youth Junior Olympics with the AAU and TAC, ran varsity Cross County, Indoor and Outdoor Track through high school, and competed in Division I NCAA Cross County, Indoor and Outdoor Track for Syracuse University. I’ve coached at the high school, club, and competitive-amateur level since graduating college. My professional background is in computer science and mathematics, and love to use technology to track, analyze, and improve an athletes performance. In 2012, I launched Inside Trail Racing, a Northern California based trail running and racing event management business, and continue to work with my wife to produce the most beautiful and organized trail running races out there.

Coaching Philosophy

All training should be informed by what the current science shows to be most effective. Technology is great to have, but performance can only improve with a sound program adapted to the individual. A motivated, dedicated, valued athlete will always trump a singularly talented one.
